Appexit

SHARE & COMMENT
Appexit is an appetite suppressant that may help you lose weight by eating less. It looks pretty good at first glance but there is very little customer feedback and this supplement is not very well known.

Is this because appetite suppressants are going out of fashion or is it because this supplement is not that appealing and just expensive? We take a look at Appexit to find out more.

Appexit Pros

  • Does not contain stimulants
  • Money-back guarantee
  • Some positive feedback

Appexit Cons

  • Expensive way of trying Glucomannan
  • Utah diet pill
  • Lacks basic consumer information

Appexit Facts

  • Marketed by Advantage Nutraceuticals based in Florida
  • Each bottle contains 90 capsules
  • Do not exceed 6 capsules within a 24 hour period

Appexit is a supplement, which contains just two ingredients said to make you feel full by tricking your brain into believing it too. Controlling your appetite is an issue when it comes to losing weight but hunger is not the only reason we put weight on. After all we eat for a variety of reasons and not necessarily just when we are hungry.

Appexit is made by Advantage Nutraceuticals LLC an American company based in Florida. It is hard to find out anything about them or their other product ranges although the company did fall foul of the Feds back in 2006. This was when US marshals seized dietary supplements that Advantage claimed to protect against arthritis. These drugs were unapproved by the FDA.

Advantage Nutraceuticals list their address at:
906 Skipper Ave, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547-1806

Interestingly the customer support address listed on the product website is Utah based and none other than;

3165 Millrock Dr
Ste 500
Salt Lake City, UT 84121
801-598-7287

This is an address shared by Blackfire Global and numerous other diet pill companies such as Nutripharm.

We looked into the practices of Blackfire Global and Doakes Nutraceuticals in previous investigations and have covered many Nutripharm products in previous reviews. We have never approved a Nutripharm supplement and a connection with any of these companies does not inspire trust in a product.

Advantage Nutraceuticals are using the same address for customer support so there is undoubtedly a connection in some way.

Another odd feature about the company behind Appexit is that we cannot find out about any other Advantage products. Usually a company will list all its products and have a clear and businesslike profile and website but this is not the case here. It all looks a bit shadowy and the Utah address for customer services, especially when the company is supposed to be based in Florida, furthers this impression.

To add further uncertainly we found that Payments are also taken by what seems to be another company called Advantage Pharmaceuticals LLC. Researching this company came up with nothing, the fact is we have no idea how trustworthy these guys are.

How to Take Appexit

You are not given any advice about how and when to take Appexit. The website information states that each bottle of Appexit contains 90 capsules and that;

“Depending on how often you need to take Appexit to suppress your appetite, you’ll go through the bottle faster or slower”

The bottle contains more information regarding dose: Take 2 capsules 30 minutes before each meal and do not exceed more than 6 capsules in a 24 hour period.

Appexit is a straightforward dietary supplement. It contains just two ingredients – Chromax a branded chromium picolate supplement and Glucomannan – a fibre that helps cause feelings of fullness.

A point in this supplements favour is that it is stimulant free so you won’t experience the associated stimulant side effects. However, the problem for many people will be whether an appetite suppressant will really help you lose weight?

Feeling full may help you restrict your appetite a bit but a major problem is that we do not only eat when we are hungry. We eat for a variety of reasons and hunger is only a part of the problem.

Appexit Concerns:

  • Lack of basic information and uncertainty if sufficient ingredient amounts
  • We are concerned about the risks of taking chromium supplements
  • We cannot find out much about the company and they are linked with an address to a payment processor with dubious history

What Does Appexit Claim To Do?

Appexit claims to “conquer your hunger” and this is illustrated by an image of a whole plate of hotdogs which in truth do not look very appetising.

According to the product information your appetite is triggered by hormones such as “Leptin and Ghrelin that are released when your body senses your stomach is empty,” and also by your biological clock that tells you to eat a mealtimes.

The advertising states that;

Appexit works as the most powerful appetite suppressants available by regulating the hypothalamus center in your brain to prevent overeating and craving

and that you can;

Eat less every meal without feeling hungry

According to the advertising;

Appexit is 100% safe and Side effect free

The advertising page is made up from a high number of satisfied customer testimonials who have all lost weight by using this supplement. “Thank you Appexit you helped change my life.” is a typical comment.

The sharp-eyed will notice an asterisk attached to these statements that link to a disclaimer printed in extremely hard to read light grey text at the foot of the page.

Results in the Testimonials may not be typical and your results may vary.

So What Is Appexit and What Are The Ingredients For Appexit?

Appexit is an appetite suppressant, which contains just two ingredients.

  • Chromax (300mcg or 0.3mg): This is a branded chromium supplement
    Chromax made by Nutrition 21.
    Some clinical testing has evaluated a lack of chromium as being the cause of an inability to process sugar properly and it has been researched for treatment and the management of diabetes.
    However, the findings have been challenged and medical research has never found a biomedical reason for the body’s need for chromium. It is not safe to take too much chromium and this supplement exceeds the RDA. The advisable dose is between 50 to 200 mcg a day for adults.
    If you are diabetic, it is important to see your doctor before taking Chromax because it can interact with your medication.
    There have been concerns about chromium’s link with cancer and the UK Food agency are keeping their advice about chromium supplements under review after coming close to banning this substance due to health concerns.
    According to animal testing carried out by the dept of chemistry Dartmouth College New Hampshire. Chromax may cause reproductive disorders. Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8529845
  • Glucomannan (1350mg): There have been numerous studies carried out on the efficacy of Glucomannan as an aid to weight loss and we have covered this ingredient in a previous investigation. Glucomannan is a pectin-like, indigestible fiber believed to cause weight-loss. Because the stomach cannot digest Glucomannan, it stays in the gut for a long time and creates a feeling of fullness thus leading to the appetite suppressant effect.
    Clinical testing of Glucomannan has provided a mixed bag of results. On the whole it seems to be a promising ingredient and results have shown significant weight loss as well as a reduction of cholesterol and lipids.
    However according to the University College of Chicago we should remain cautious. They state that:

Further investigation of safety, efficacy, and mechanisms of action is needed to determine whether GM can help to decrease the high prevalence of overweight and obesity in the United States

Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16320857.
See our earlier investigation into Glucomannan.

So What Does All This Mean?

Appexit may help you feel fuller because of the Glucomannan content of the diet pills, although this depends on how much is taken. We do not like chromax much – taking a chromium supplement is unnecessary according to medical advice and this ingredient requires further testing for safety.

Does Appexit Have Any Side Effects?

Appexit is stimulant free so you should not notice too many side effects. However, Glucomannan in solid tablets rather than powder form has been known to cause obstruction in the throat or intestines. You must ensure you take plenty of water with these capsules in order to wash them down.

Caution: Avoid if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Do not take Appexit if you are taking prescription medication because Glucomannan absorbs other substances in the intestines and stomach and you may find that even the effects of the contraceptive pill are reduced.
Glucomannan can reduce blood sugar levels so take medical advice if you are on diabetes medication.
Ensure you take with plenty of water to minimise the risk of obstruction.
Chromax is potentially dangerous and its safety not fully evaluated.

Any Appexit Reviews From Customers?

There are very few customer reviews for Appexit. We never count website testimonials because we only include independent reviews. The two reviews we found were positive;

I have been taking it now for 4 days and I am already down 3 lbs! It has 95% reduced my appetite and when I do eat I am eating half of what I would normally

And

It does work great when taken correctly to control your appetite. It will cause you to drink more water which is so good for you anyway!

So Does Appexit Work?

It may work to reduce your appetite and the two reviewers we found were satisfied. However if you wanted to try Glucomannan – the active ingredient – you might find it cheaper and safer to buy it in powder form. This ingredient remains unproven but clinical testing looks promising when taken in sufficient quantities, which the research suggests is around 3 grammes per day.

Reducing your appetite can help you lose weight but changing your diet to include more fibre will have much the same affect and be safer. Hunger is not the only reason that most of us eat too much and an appetite suppressant does not necessarily work against the temptation of cakes, fast food and fizzy drinks for example.

Where Can I Buy Appexit?

You can buy Appexit direct from the product website. Each bottle of Appexit contains 90 capsules and costs $29.95 plus $9.52 – Standard shipping to US addresses.

You can make savings on larger orders. Two bottles costs $59.95 and comes with a free gift of a diet supplement called the 3 Day Detox (no information provided about this) and includes free shipping. Three bottles of Appexit costs $89.95 and includes three free bottles of 3 Day Detox and free US shipping.

When you click on the buy button of the site and then try to leave without a purchase, you are offered a further 10% discount.

Appexit is also on sale via eBay.com and US Amazon.com. You can find it for around $34.95 plus shipping via Amazon.

What About A Guarantee

Appexit is backed by a 90-day guarantee. If you are dissatisfied for any reason, you can return your empty or partially used bottle for a full refund. You will have to pay return shipping and handling charges. This offer is valid for one fully used bottle and all unused bottles in resalable condition. We feel this guarantee looks good but have a slight reservation due to the pedigree of the merchant.

Watchdog Verdict

Appexit looks ok but you don’t really get much for your money. If you really wanted to try losing weight with Glucomannan a generic Glucomannan supplement would be much cheaper and probably cause much the same effect. Increasing your fibre would probably do the same.

We like that Appexit will not cause stimulant side effects but are concerned about the possibility of intestinal or throat blockages. We don’t like that it may interact with other medication and feel there should be a warning about this on the product website. (Please note if you do try Glucomannan the same concerns apply).

We can’t see the point of chromium supplementation either and the effects and safely remains unproven, which is a major concern. Our other concern comes down to results. Appetite suppressants do not always help you eat less because hunger is not the only trigger for over eating.

In conclusion, we just don’t think that this supplement is good enough, safe enough and worth spending hard-earned cash on and for these reasons, we reject Appexit.
