When Dr Oz described Garcinia Cambogia as being the “holy grail” of weight loss he created a storm in the supplements world and a lot of manufacturers leapt on the Garcinia bandwagon. Could it be that supplement marketers may have jumped the gun?

Botanix Garcinia Cambogia Facts
- The company behind Botanix are called Goominate and the business is based in Cornwall UK
- Each bottle contains 180 capsules
- Little information on the long term effects
Botanix Garcinia Cambogia is a British made supplement that offers pure 100% potent Garcinia Cambogia and nothing else. Garcinia Cambogia is a fruit, which grows in Asia and is similar to the Tamarind. It is known for its bitter flavour and is sometimes used to create a sour flavour in Asian cuisine.
Garcinia Cambogia is believed to have numerous benefits for weight loss. Its supporters claim that it can help burn fat via a natural substance called hydroxycitric acid contained in the natural fruit. It is also supposed to reduce cholesterol and fat mass as well as reduce your appetite. It is even supposed to boosts serotonin levels too so makes you feel happier. It all sounds great but the problem is that there is not much in the way of real clinical evidence to back up any of the claims for Garcinia.
Garcinia Cambogia came to world attention after this ingredient was featured on the top TV health programme the Dr Oz show. He described Garcinia Cambogia as “a revolutionary fat buster,” with the words “No Exercise. No Diet. No Effort” on the screen behind him.
He called it the holy grail of weight loss and made many other flowery claims that seemed to prove that this ingredient worked. Dr Oz has got into trouble with the US senate over his claims about so-called miracle ingredients and has been severely criticised by the medical profession for making false claims about Garcinia Cambogia as well as Green Coffee Extract and Raspberry Ketones.
There is very little evidence to prove that these three ingredients will do very much for weight loss but all of them have generated a worldwide demand for these supplements.
Botanix Garcinia Cambogia Concerns:
- Will the advice that you do not need to exercise or diet with this supplement make you put on weight?
- Will the company really honour the guarantee as promised?
- No customer feedback
What Does Botanix Garcinia Cambogia Claim To Do?
The product advice is to take between 1500mgs (3 capsules) and a maximum of 3000mg (6 capsules) a day with a glass of water, 30 minutes before a meal. Gradually increasing the serving size will help your body to adjust. It is very important to drink a lot of water when taking Garcinia Cambogia, especially with larger servings.
Botanix Garcinia Cambogia is a supplement that contains only Garcinia Cambogia so if you are looking to try this ingredient it seems good at first glance. The product website is appealing with some pictures of the Garcinia Cambogia fruit plus there are some special price offers to tempt you.
However, there is very little information about the company behind this supplement. Botanix offer a guarantee, which is great but does not provide contact details or an address for returns. Call us sceptical but a company you can only contact via email rings alarm bells with us. In addition, Botanix does not appear to be on sale anywhere apart from the product website.
We looked into Botanix and found that the company behind the brand is called Goominate who are based in Cornwall and started in 2013.
According to the advertising, this diet pill contains only pure extract with no fillers, binders or artificial ingredients.
There are four key features:
- 60% HCA – Hydroxycitric Acid
- No exercise required
- No Fillers, Artificial ingredients or Additives
- 100% 60 Day Money Back Guarantee
According to Botanix,
Our Garcinia Cambogia meets ALL of Dr. Oz’s very specific requirements.
This is not actually very impressive given that Dr Oz has been lambasted by the American senate and the medical community for making unfounded and inaccurate claims about Garcinia Cambogia.

So What Is Botanix Garcinia Cambogia and What Are The Ingredients?
Botanix Garcinia Cambogia contains just one ingredient, pure Garcinia Cambogia extract .
Each capsule contains 500mg and two capsules is equal to one 1000mg serving. This ingredient has undergone clinical testing but results are inconclusive. The active ingredient is hydroxycitric acid (HCA) which is said to block fat and suppress the appetite.
HCA inhibits a key enzyme called citrate lyase that the body uses in order to make fat from carbohydrates. HCA also suppresses appetite by increasing serotonin levels. There is a link between low serotonin levels and depression and as a result comfort eating.
According to supporters, Garcinia Cambogia decreases belly fat and helps increase lean muscle mass. It is said to decrease cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides by 10-30% and to raise levels of the “good cholesterol” HDL.
This all sounds good but it just isn’t proven to work. One test carried out on 135 obese subjects had promising beginnings but concluded “Garcinia Cambogia failed to produce significant weight loss and fat mass loss beyond that observed with placebo.
The major problem with Garcinia Cambogia is that results are inconclusive and many of the testing methods have been criticised. The journal of obesity summed up the problems. They stated,
The evidence from randomised clinical trials suggests that Garcinia extracts/HCA generate weight loss on the short term. However, the magnitude of this effect is small, and not statistically significant when only rigorous trials are considered, and its clinical relevance seems questionable.
In other words, most of the testing of Garcinia Cambogia is flawed and does not prove that this ingredient really works.
The journal of obesity advises caution and states that;
Future trials should be more rigorous, longer in duration, and better reported.
So What Does All This Mean?
Garcinia Cambogia may have a small short-term effect on weight loss but it is nowhere near as effective as the advertising claims. This means that taking Botanix Garcinia Cambogia will probably not make much difference to your weight loss.
Even worse, if you follow the Dr Oz advice and do not bother making dietary changes or increasing your exercise, you could end up less healthy than before.
There really is no magic pill for weight loss. When it comes down to it, you need to move more and eat less fattening foodstuffs. Some supplements may help you do this and provide some support to your efforts but they will not work alone. Garcinia Cambogia may do nothing beyond a placebo because the effects seem minimal.
However if you are keen to try it out for yourself, Botanix seems to be a reasonable choice. It is made in the UK and according to the product information complies with GMP regulations and is manufactured to ISO 9000-2001 standards.
Does Botanix Garcinia Cambogia Have Any Side Effects?
A good point about Garcinia Cambogia is that it appears to be safe. This means that Botanix should be safe too as it contains this sole ingredient. However long term safety has not been assessed so you should not take it for more than 12 weeks.
Mild potential side effects may include:
- Mild nausea
- Stomach discomfort
As with all supplements, you should avoid if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Check with your doctor first if you have an underlying medical condition.
There is no data available regarding possible drug interactions, so if you are taking medication it is probably best to ask your doctor first.
Any Botanix Garcinia Cambogia Reviews From Customers?
We were unable to find any Botanix Garcinia Cambogia reviews. There are other Garcinia supplements on the market and feedback is mainly negative and along the “didn’t work” and “waste of money” lines.
We do not want to be unfair to Botanix, but Garcinia Cambogia supplements seem to generate a negative response.
So Does Botanix Garcinia Cambogia Work?
If Garcinia Cambogia works for weight loss then Botanix will work. There is nothing else contained in this supplement apart from this active ingredient. The problem is that Garcinia comes with a lot of hype and very little real evidence and the same study is referenced by all the people selling supplements.
This one test is mentioned by the Botanix advertising and references a Japanese preliminary study carried out on just 44 people. This concluded,
At the end of the study there was fat loss and signi?cantly reduced visceral, subcutaneous, and total fat areas compared with the placebo group. Garcinia Cambogia reduced abdominal fat accumulation in subjects, regardless of sex, who had the visceral fat accumulation…
The problem is that there are other clinical tests that prove that this does not happen.

What About A Guarantee
Botanix offer a 60-day guarantee, which sounds great. They state:
100% – No Questions Asked Money Back Guarantee, if you don’t get the results you expected – we will give you a full refund.
However, Botanix do not provide any details about how to claim and guarantee information was not provided in the terms and conditions.
Botanix Garcinia Cambogia does not look bad for a Garcinia Cambogia supplement. It contains only this one active ingredient, comes with a guarantee and seems fairly reasonably priced. In addition, you can pay via PayPal and the company will not trick you into an auto billing agreement.
However, there are downsides. There is very little information about the company behind it and we don’t like businesses who don’t provide an address or phone number. Will they really keep to a guarantee if they do not provide any background details?
In addition, this supplement is unknown and we were unable to find anyone who had actually taken it. It is only sold via the product website so you do not get a chance to see how it stands up in the open market and what customer experience is really like.
However, the big question must be whether Garcinia Cambogia even works? Some limited clinical testing and Dr Oz claim that it does, but the massive hype for this ingredient does not reflect the real findings.
This ingredient remains unproven for weight loss and most findings suggest that results are extremely minimal.
We feel Garcinia Cambogia is over hyped and unproven and for this reason we have no other choice but to reject this supplement.
