Lipomin Review

Lipomin Facts

  • Manufactured by Pierce Hawthorne based in Utah, US
  • Includes 3 Day Diet Detox supplement on some packages
  • 120 capsules per bottle for 4 capsules taken per day

Once the official website opens up you’re faced with a playable video that outlines the success that one consumer, Hailey has had with Lipomin. This is well put together and a very pervasive video testimonial.

The rest of the site is easy to read but lacking in any real information, with most of the one page site devoted to the ingredients, frequently asked questions and feedback from other Lipomin customers.

There is a sales number and live chat (although no one was available when we tried) but we couldn’t see anywhere on the site who owned the supplement. A bit of Watchdog digging and we soon discovered that Lipomin is owned and manufactured by Pierce Hawthorne a company based in Utah, US and who own a number of other diet pills on the market – a few of these we have also reviewed and unfortunately rejected (OxySelect Pink, Apidextra and ApidexTrim).

Lipomin Website

We checked what the Better Business Bureau thought of Pierce Hawthorne and found they gave it a somewhat poor rating of D.

To put this in perspective this rating is based on a consumer issue with the warranty/guarantee.

It’s not clear on the official website how to take Lipomin. Considering each bottle contains 120 capsules for a month’s supply we can only assume you take 4 capsules per day.

The keen sighted can just about make out the recommended serving suggestion on the Lipomin bottle on the website! You’re advised to take 2 capsules 30 minutes before breakfast and a further 2 capsules at lunchtime with 12 ounces of water.

Lipomin Concerns

  • Lacks any credible proof that it can work
  • Few and no recent customer testimonials
  • No information or address for manufacturer

What Does Lipomin Claim To Do?

This diet supplement claims to help you “lose weight fast or your money-back!”

According to the manufacturers there’s no secret to weight loss, claiming that…

Lipomin has been created with clinically proven ingredients that will help making losing weight easier.

How does it do this? By taking Lipomin the manufacturers claim you can “get a body you can be proud of” by:

  • Reducing Unsightly Body Fat
  • Curbing Hunger Cravings
  • Firing Up Your Metabolism

So What Is Lipomin and What Are The Ingredients For Lipomin?

There are 8 active ingredients in Lipomin, which includes a dietary fiber, caffeine, a vitamin and other ingredients in fairly low amounts.

Looking at the stated ingredient amounts we were initially a bit confused though as the bottle states each capsule contains 695mg. A quick calculation of the ingredient amounts stated on the website comes to approximately 1,437mg. This suggests the ingredient amounts listed relate to a serving size of 2 capsules…. so just how much are you taking of each ingredient?

  • Glucomannan (1000 mg): A dietary fiber that claims to be very effective in suppressing appetite as it helps to keep you full and prevents overeating. In sufficient amounts studies have shown weight loss of over 5lbs in 8 weeks. Unlikely to be enough in here though as the same studies used over 3,000mg per day (3 times the amount in Lipomin).
  • Chromax (500 mcg): Evidence claiming this ingredient can promote a 365 calorie reduction per day. An independent review of 24 studies using Chromium by The National Institute of Health found NO significant benefits on body mass or composition though.
    Source: National Institute of Health
  • Raspberry Ketones (100 mg): The hottest superfruit at the moment, or certainly the one with the most media attention! Ketones are responsible for the aroma and red color in raspberries and said to help promote weight loss. Research in rodents showed 200mg per day could give results; there is only half this amount in Lipomin.
  • Caffeine Anhydrous (199 mg): Your ordinary caffeine equivalent here to around 2 strong cups of coffee. Will help to boost alertness and concentration but may cause mild side effects for any consumers unused to stimulants.
  • Evodiamine (50 mg): Suggested to increase body temperature by way of thermogenosis to boost metabolism causing increased energy expenditure and greater fat burning. Not much of this ingredient in here though.
  • PEA (Phenylethylamine) (37.5 mg): Found in cocoa powder and therefore chocolate and could be responsible for its positive effects on the brain. It is claimed to be an aphrodisiac and to suppress the appetite but there is very little research to suggest it could be effective for weight loss.
  • Ginger Root (50 mg): Promotes a number of cardiovascular, muscular and skeletal health benefits. There is not much ginger included here, so it’s unlikely there is sufficient ginger in Lipomin to be that effective.
  • Vitamin B12 (500 mcg): A water soluble vitamin that’s essential for good health, mostly for brain and the central nervous system. You’re likely to get the amounts seen in Lipomin from eating a balanced diet.

So What Does All This Mean?

This supplement has little information relying on descriptions of the ingredients used and scant references to how effective it could be.

Whilst some of the ingredients have shown promising results, it’s questionable if sufficient amounts are available.

Does Lipomin Have Any Side Effects?

Although the manufacturer suggests no side effects are likely when taking Lipomin, a few of the ingredients may cause mild symptoms in some individuals.

If you’re not used to fiber then you may suffer from a bloated stomach and some excessive gas due to Glucomannan.

Next there is the caffeine content to think about. Particularly sensitive individuals may experience mild side effects link headaches, insomnia, increased heart rate and nervousness. Regular caffeine addicts may need to think of reducing consuming other caffeine related drinks or foods.

Caution: This supplement, like the majority of diet pills, is for adults over 18 years of age only and pregnant or nursing mothers should avoid taking it. Lipomin isn’t for everyone; you’re advised to seek medical advice if you have a pre-existing health condition.

Any Lipomin Reviews From Customers?

The official website shows a few positive consumer testimonials with the latest one on the 10th April 2012. There is no way of checking how genuine these actually are and no before and after pictures are available.

A couple of consumer reviews do exist on both reported within hours of each other. One gives a 5 star rating whilst the other a 1 star!

With no recent testimonials and few independent reviews we wonder how great this supplement really is.

So Does Lipomin Work?

Most of the ingredients in Lipomin are likely to be in low amounts (apart from caffeine) and unlikely to have much if any effect.

The main ingredients appear to be Glucomannan, caffeine and Raspberry Ketones. Apart from caffeine, we question if Glucomannan is in sufficient amounts to have the desired effect.

Let’s first look at Glucomannan. This is often touted as a fat-fighting fiber that works when consumed in sufficient quantities and especially when combined with diet and exercise.

The dosage size in Lipomin equates to between 1-2g over 2 servings (4 capsules in total). Studies have shown that you need much more, at least 3g per day to experience a significant reduction in satiety amongst obese subjects. A quick look at the studies often referenced by other diet pills using this ingredient:

Study 1: Effect of glucomannan on obese patients: a clinical study (3g per day)

Study 2: Chronic use of glucomannan in the dietary treatment of severe obesity (4g per day)

In fact the study most often used by diet pill manufacturers to support the effectiveness of glucomannan is “study 1″. Unfortunately they seem to have confused the amounts as the study used 1g dosages 3 TIMES PER DAY in order for subjects to experience weight loss of 5.5lbs over 8 weeks ;)

After establishing there is insufficient Glucomannan to probably work we’re left with Raspberry Ketones and Caffeine.

There is some promising research with Raspberry Ketone, we have looked at a few such supplements, as with all new “weight loss miracles” it’s been somewhat over hyped. There are much better Superfruit supplements on the market place that are likely to be more effective.

Lastly you ordinary run of the mill caffeine. Yes it can work to boost alertness and concentration, even temporarily increase metabolism, but do you want to pay $49 when a coffee or two will do the same trick?

What About a Guarantee?

As we have come to expect from this manufacturer there is a 90-day money-back guarantee. A few complaints

Where Can I Buy Lipomin?

Only available online via the official website, Lipomin costs $49.95 for one bottle to $119.95 for 3 bottles.

3 Day DetoxBundled with 2 and 3 bottle orders is a supplement called 3 Day Detox, which is supposedly a “special” detox product that flushes toxins from your body. Retailing for $19.95 these are included free to encourage consumers to purchase 2 or more bottles.

No information is available on the 3 Day Detox supplement and is likely to contain ingredients that simply cause water loss. A quick search online for this supplement and our suspicions were confirmed, the ingredients are mostly diuretics that will simply make you urinate more often!

Consumer Alert: Be wary of detox diet pills, they can cause a number of health issues. Read our diet investigation on the Dangers of Detox Diet Pills here.

Watchdog Verdict

Lipomin follows a similar format to many diet pills seen in the US and certainly those produced by the same manufacturer. A few stock images of slim, toned and attractive people, scientific sounding ingredients, couple of testimonials and a “limited time offer” for a supplement no one has heard of!

With no clinical studies referenced and questions over sufficient ingredient amounts we aren’t too confident of the possible results with this supplement.

The 90-day money-back guarantee is a big plus, though questions have been raised about the reliability of the merchant and other supplements they produce.

With little information available we could only reject Lipomin.

Since my unfortunate experience with KETONE PREMIUM when their product
caused me considerable pain and discomfort. And no refund could be obtained,
I now will buy nothing on line. Which is not good for the firms who advertise
