So What Is Mega Slim Plus and What Are The Ingredients?
The product contains two active ingredients, Citrus Aurantium and Green Tea extract. The website lists the equivalent amounts of dried product that are available in each ml of the product, and also includes the equivalent value of Synephrine, a key compound found naturally in Citrus Aurantium. Because the dose varies upon the dieters’ weight, we have provided the amounts included per ml, rather than per dose.
Body weight up to 75kgs: 2-4mL prior to workout.
Body weight above 75kg: 3-5mL prior to workout.
Each ml of the product contains:
- Citrus Aurantium (Bitter Orange) ext equiv. fruit dry- 1.5g (1500mg)
- equiv. Oxedrine (Synephrine): 6mg
- Camellia sinensis (Green Tea) ext equiv. leaf dry: 600mg
- Citrus Aurantium: Also known as citrus aurantium, this ingredient contains synephrine. A review of numerous studies concluded that use of synephrine resulted in an increase to the participants resting metabolic rate and energy expenditure, and moderate weight loss was seen in studies lasting over 6 weeks. However, there are some concerns about its safety being under-researched and the numerous side effects that have been associated with it.
- Green Tea Extract:Green tea is high in a group of antioxidants called catechins. Studies have suggested that catechins and caffeine both increase energy expenditure by boosting the metabolism temporarily. However, the metabolic increase caused by green tea is limited. One study found that the use of green tea was not enough to counteract weight gain following a very low calorie diet.
Whilst many diet pills use green tea extracts that still contain the naturally occurring caffeine, Mega Slim Plus claims that it is a caffeine free product, suggesting that this extract has had the caffeine removed.
So What Does All This Mean?
Citrus Aurantium is a stimulant product, which raises the metabolism by stimulating the central nervous system. It has been known to cause a whole host of side effects, as described below, but it is frequently used in diet pills because it does affect weight loss.
Green tea increases the thermogenic output of the body, burning more calories and increasing the metabolism.
However, Mega Slim Plus is a liquid weight loss aid, that is swallowed, rather than being held under the tongue. This makes the product fairly unconventional, and it is unclear whether this method retains the strength of dried capsule extracts.
Liquid extracts are still a relatively new technology in the dieting world, and so there is little research about liquid extracts of any single ingredient.
Does Mega Slim Plus Have Any Side Effects?
The official website does refer to the awful taste of Mega Slim Plus, stating that there is a strong aftertaste because of the strong concentration of green tea. Consumers are advised that they can mix the product with water, to drink before and during exercise.
Consumers are also advised to not take the product on an empty stomach, suggesting that this can cause side effects. Whilst it does not specify what side effects these could be, we speculate that it could cause indigestion and stomach pains.
Green tea has been associated with a number of side effects when consumed in large quantities. These include:
- stomach upset
- sleep problems
- irregular heartbeat
- ringing in the ears
Citrus Aurantium has been known to cause a wide range of side effects, including heart rate and increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, fainting, and even heart attack and stroke in healthy patients.
Because it is a stimulant, it is also possible that it can interfere with sleeping patterns, especially if taken in the evening. The Mayo clinic advises against the use of Citrus Aurantium because of these risks.
Consumers should also be aware that caffeine enhances both the effects and chances of developing side effects of citrus aurantium, and so should monitor their caffeine intake from other sources whilst using this product. Caffeine is found in tea, coffee, energy drinks, many soft drinks, energy tablets and in many other diet pills.
Not suitable for anyone under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding women, anyone with hypertension (high blood pressure), heart disease, or people who have sleep problems.
Any Mega Slim Plus Reviews From Customers?
There seem to be no customer reviews for Mega Slim Plus. The official website does not have any place for customers to leave feedback, and none have been left on other websites that sell the product.
So Does Mega Slim Plus Work?
Without any customer reviews, it is very difficult to establish whether or not this product works. Whilst the two ingredients are both clinically proven to boost weight loss, this diet supplement is in an unconventional form as a liquid, and so it is difficult to state just how effective this could be in comparison to other products with the same ingredients.
The manufacturer claims that in liquid form the ingredients are taken into the body nine times faster than capsules, but offers no evidence for these claims. Liquid diet supplements are usually taken by holding them under the tongue, but Mega Slim Plus is swallowed, and so it is not clear if any of the ingredients are destroyed in the stomach because of stomach acids.
Where Can I Buy Mega Slim Plus?
Mega Slim Plus is a product manufactured by an Australian company, and as such is predominantly available to Australian customers. Some websites may offer international shipping on their products, although this varies from site to site, and can be expensive. Customers who are ordering internationally should also be aware that customs charges may apply, which will not be evident when ordering the product. These are usually charged at the door when accepting the delivery, and can be a significant percentage of the cost of the order.
From the official website, Nextgenerationsupplements, one 200 ml bottle costs AUD$71.96. This is a fairly expensive product, but this bottle size should last around 40 days, depending upon the dose used by the customer. The larger bottle is 500 ml, and should last 100 days plus, again depending upon usage. This larger bottle costs AUD$125.06.
The website offers bonus items when customers spend over certain amounts. For example, those spending over $60 receive a free shaker, those spending over $100 receive a free shaker and a magazine, and those spending over $200 receive a free shaker, a magazine, an embroidered towel and a Next Gen T-shirt. As none of these freebies directly affect the product or weight loss, this should not be a motivating factor in choosing which products, if any, to order. However, the advertisement for these freebies is listed before the price of the product, and is clearly designed to persuade customers to spend more.
Shipping costs are based upon the order made, and full details are listed on the website.
As shipping is based upon the weight of the package, amongst other things, the ‘freebies’ could potentially push up the delivery costs.
What About A Guarantee
There is no money back guarantee on any product from Next Generation Supplements. Their returns policy is almost non-existent, with refunds ‘for change of mind purchases’ not being accepted at all.
Customers who receive faulty or incorrect products can have their product replaced upon return of the original order, but customers have to contact the company within 7 days of receiving the goods and they must be returned to the company within 14 days of contacting the company.
The only time money is actually refunded to the customer is if a replacement is not available for their faulty order, and they do not desire an alternative replacement product.
Customers should phone 1800 288 019 to arrange returns.
Whilst Mega Slim Plus tries to present itself as the ideal weight loss aid, it seems to be far from it. It is an expensive product, and there is little evidence, anecdotal or scientific, that this product actually works. Whilst the two main ingredients are clinically proven to aid weight loss by boosting the metabolism, there is a definitive lack of research into liquid extracts of these two ingredients.
Whilst citrus aurantium has been shown to boost weight loss, it has also been linked with serious side effects, including heart attacks and strokes in otherwise healthy patients; although this ingredient is not banned, we cannot recommend that consumers use it.
The product is liquid, but the bottle does not feature a dropper or syringe style measurer, and so customers need to estimate their dose, use a spoon, which could be messy, or risk using too much or too little of the product. Whilst measuring out 5ml on a cough syrup spoon is ok, measuring out a smaller dose would be essentially guesswork.
The company provides no proper returns system, refusing change of mind returns, and offering exchanges on damaged products rather than the option to refund the faulty product instead.
With no customer reviews to suggest this product works, no direct clinical evidence, and a high price tag, this all makes Mega Slim Plus too much of a risk to purchase.
