Watchdog Approved Diet Pills

Phentra 50 is yet another diet supplement trading off a name that sounds like a banned prescription drug without any real reason to do so. Despite this, the Phentra 50 marketing insists that this is a brand you can trust and the website looks ultra slick and professional.

We take a look at Phentra 50 to find out whether it is worth trying or is just a case of style being better than substance.

Phentra50 Facts

  • Produced in the UK by Atom Labs
  • Each packet contains 60 capsules – one months supply
  • You are advised to increase your dose gradually. The maximum is 3 capsules daily.

Phentra 50 the Accelerator to give the supplement its full name, is manufactured by British company Atom Labs. The supplement contains a blend of extracts and minerals that according to the company will have a positive effect upon the metabolism and lead to fat blocking, fat burning and appetite suppression. Phentra 50 is said to be designed to kick start your weight loss efforts and support and maintain your goals.

Diet pills that pay homage to the drug brand name create a powerful image just by this association! And when it’s done right, even an ordinary diet pill achieves some of the mystique.

Phentra 50 have got their advertising just right and at first glance the slick website, crisp imaging and touch screen friendly website creates the impression that this supplement is a cut above the rest!

Phentra 50 is not a weight loss drug. Instead, it contains a range of minerals and herbal extracts which have no connection at all. These include Zinc, Niacin Riboflavin and Thiamine. (You can’t see the ingredients list until you click on the buy now page of the product website)

The advertising states that all of the ingredients have been approved by EFSA (European Food Safety Agency) so you can be confident that this supplement is safe to take.

Phentra 50 is made by British company Atom Labs who also produce Phenslim – a diet pill which looks similar to Phentra 50, and Eph 30 an appetite suppressant. You will notice that naming supplements after banned drugs is a theme with this company.

To use Phentra 50 you are advised to follow what the advertising describes as a “three stage path to success”. This means gradually upping the dose from one pill to three pills per day to allow your body to become accustomed to what is described as the stimulant effects.

You take one capsule each morning for the first seven days, and then increase the dosage to one capsule in the morning and one in the mid afternoon. You take this for a week and then enter the final phase where you increase the dose to three a day, taking the capsules with breakfast, before lunch and then mid afternoon.

You should take the capsules with food (and never on an empty stomach) and ensure you drink plenty of water. Due to the advertised stimulant effect, you should not take too close to bedtime. According to the packaging Phentra 50 contains 200mg of caffeine per serving.

Phentra50 Concerns:

  • May not work as well as advertised
  • Lacks customer feedback
  • No money-back guarantee just the 7 days returns policy

What Does Phentra50 Claim To Do?

The Phentra 50 website is crisp and businesslike. Stay on the site a while and it gets annoying with the pages automatically flashing past. Each page comes with a statement that you have to be quick to read.

Phentra 50 claims to be “A brand you can trust” made from “researched and tested ingredients” and that Atom Labs the manufacturer is dedicated to exploring “the science of weight loss” The advertising claims that the supplement burns fat, suppresses appetite and blocks carbs.

A picture of the box also claims three other weight loss features. These are:

  • Normal metabolism of fatty acids
  • Regular carbohydrate mechanism
  • Reduction of tiredness and fatigue

So we guess that the Phentra 50 advertising is claiming to do pretty much everything!

But do we all really need a supplement to help us achieve “normal”? And what is a “regular carbohydrate mechanism”? This really does not make much too much sense and would be nice to see the packaging written in plain English!

To help you calculate your weight goals there is an online calorie counter at your disposal and a BMI calculator on the website.

So What Is Phentra50 and What Are The Ingredients For Phentra50?

Phentra 50 is a general-purpose weight loss pill said to boost metabolism and energy.

Contents amounts are given per capsule.

  • Beta Alanine (200mg): Naturally occurring amino acid, which is sometimes, used in sports supplements. Limited clinical testing has suggested that it may improve fatigue levels. When Beta Alanine was trialled on an American football team it seemed there was an improvement in stamina and endurance when taken over a regular period. Source:
  • Caffeine (200mg): The world’s favourite stimulant can increase the metabolism especially if you are unaccustomed to taking it. However, people soon build up a tolerance. The effects and side effects of caffeine are well known and it can help promote weight loss. 200mg is equal to roughly 1.5 cups of instant coffee.
  • Oxyphenylon (200mg): This is an alternative name for better-known raspberry ketone. This substance has been in the news recently because it is believed to be a powerful fat burner. However, there is no evidence that raspberry ketone (Oxyphenylon) works for weight loss. Clinical testing has been extremely limited and results mainly around animal testing. Source:
  • L-Phenylalanine (50mg): Amino acid found in protein including eggs, meat, fish and milk. There does not appear to be much reason for taking this ingredient apart from use as a treatment for skin disease Vitilgo.
The body may use L Phenylalanine to make chemical messengers but it is unclear how it works or even if it does. Can increase blood pressure. Source: WebMd L-Phenylalanine
  • L-Tyrosine (50mg): Amino acid found naturally in cheese and can be synthesised in the body by L-Phenylalanine. L Tyrosine is a precursor to dopamine – a vital neurotransmitter that creates feelings of pleasure in the brain.
Some studies have found that L Tyrosine helps the body cope in times of cold, fatigue or stress but surprisingly it does not have an effect upon mood in unstressful conditions. Boosting your L tyrosine levels too much can actually reduce your dopamine levels.
  • Green Coffee Extract (40mg): Unroasted or immature coffee beans are green and high in chlorogenic acid – linked to causing a weight loss effect by inhibiting the release of glucose into the blood stream. Glucose is stored by the body as fat. Green coffee extract is popular as a diet pill ingredient following exposure by Dr Oz on his TV show but weight loss results appear minimal. Source:
  • Vitamin B3 (16mg): When taken at high levels Niacinamide or vitamin B3 can lower cholesterol levels and promote heart health. The RDA is set at 14mg daily for women so this supplement seems set at the correct amount. Vitamin b3 is present in many foods including green veg and eggs. It can cause stomach upsets, flushing and facial redness if you have too much of it.Source: WebMd Niacin guide
  • Zinc 4mg: Essential mineral that is crucial for health and well-being and according to research is essential for multiple aspects of the metabolism. Source:
  • Vitamin B2 (3.5mg): This vitamin is also known as Riboflavin is a micronutrient that plays a key role in maintaining health.
  • Vitamin B1 (2.25mg): Water-soluble vitamin that is essential for health and present in foods including, yeast, cereal grains – as anyone who has ever read a cereal packet will know. High doses of Thiamine may improve mental capacity but present here in extremely low levels. Source:

So What Does All This Mean?

Phentra 50 contains a range of ingredients with a stimulant effect. Beta Alanine was found to increase endurance levels when taken long term and green coffee beans also contain caffeine so you may notice the supplement perks you up a bit.

It all looks ok but some of the ingredients may interact with medication and we are not very impressed with the lack of information provided by the site. We don’t like that we could not see the ingredients list until we had the product in front of us.

Does Phentra50 Have Any Side Effects?

A total lack of customer feedback makes it impossible to find any real life experiences of taking this supplement.

However judging by the ingredients list it is highly possible that there will be side effects. Expect the usual stimulant side effects if you are sensitive to caffeine such as jitteriness, anxiety and similar.

Vitamin B3 can cause facial redness and itching if taken to excess and as it is present in many foodstuffs you may find that taking a supplement will cause this effect.

Caution: Avoid if pregnant or breast-feeding. Do not take Phentra 50 if you are already taking medication for depression (MAOI) because it will interact with phenylalanine. Do not take if you suffer from a heart or blood pressure related condition.

Ask your doctor for advice before using if you have a medical condition or are taking medication. You are advised to seek medical advice if you have any adverse reactions following taking.

Any Phentra50 Reviews From Customers?

We could find no customer reviews for Phentra 50.

So Does Phentra50 Work?

We don’t think this is going to work as well as advertised. There is nothing contained in Phentra 50 that delivers the advertised “carb blocking” effect for example and the supplement looks like a stimulant based largely on caffeine with a few minerals and vitamins thrown in.

Where Can I Buy Phentra50?

One packet of 60 capsules (a month’s supply) costs £29.00 and includes free delivery. If you are buying from outside the UK, you will need to contact the company for more details but they are happy to ship worldwide.

Watchdog Verdict

We are not too impressed with Phentra 50. It is by no means the worst supplement on the market but we cannot see how it will really help you lose weight. This is a mild stimulant with some added vitamins and minerals and you could get most of this from a normal healthy diet and lifestyle and some cups of coffee.

Beta Alanine looks interesting and may help endurance if taken long term but this does not necessarily equate to weight loss. We cannot see what this supplement will actually do for you or why you should bother spending money on it. For this reason, we reject this supplement.
