Slimbetti Active Xtreme has been the subject of numerous complaints in South Africa and the company behind the product have already run into trouble with the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) for making unsubstantiated claims. Slimbetti Active Xtreme actually looks OK at first glance but the company’s back history and trading methods are a real cause for concern.

Active Xtreme Facts
- Slimbetti are owned by British couple Chris and Jasmine Grindlay
- Comes in packs of 90 capsules per container
- There have been numerous complaints to the ASA about Slimbetti regarding their false advertising claims
Slimbetti Active Xtreme is a South African diet pill that appears to offer you a plausible way to lose weight. It is aimed at the “significantly overweight” and proposes to help you
- Burn off excess weight
- Get Slim For Winter
- Weight Loss in a Box
African mango seeds and green tea are the two principle ingredients that according to some clinical research have shown to be effective for helping you lose weight. That is if taken in the correct quantities over a period of time.
The problem with this diet pill is that although it may include these two useful ingredients, there is zero information about the contents of the pills. You simply don’t know what is in them or whether they are even safe, let alone whether these capsules will help you lose weight.
Slimbetti is a well-known supplements company in South Africa. We say well known – other people may say notorious because this company have run into plenty of criticism and complains from the scientific establishment and the advertising authorities.
Other Slimbetti products include Hoodia Slendergel, a weight loss gel that you rub on your skin in order to suppress appetite. This is a ridiculous product with no foundation in science or sense. We covered it in a previous review and found it quite shocking that anyone would fall for such an obvious scam.
However, Slimbetti advertising is powerful and aimed to dupe the unwary.
Compared to Slendergel, Slimbetti Active Xtreme does not look too bad. There are plenty of other diet pills on the market that contain African mango seeds and green tea and many people have found these ingredients have helped their weight loss. There has been controversy around Active Xtreme because according to some medical opinion this African mango seeds / green tea combination lacks evidence that it works.
However, these ingredients have been tested independently in various clinical trials (nothing to do with Slimbetti) and some results have indicated that they may have some health benefits that transfer to weight loss.
This has not prevented South African consumer website Camcheck looking into this supplement and finding out that the company have made wildly inflated claims about efficacy and have used fake before and after pictures in their advertising.
Slimbetti is owned by British couple Chris and Jasmine Grindlay who have carried on trading (sometimes under different company names) despite receiving numerous warnings from the ASA for making false claims about weight loss in their advertising.
One of the worst aspects about Slimbetti is their sales policy. Key to the website information is the announcement that you can lose weight now and pay later by signing up to a direct debit agreement.
According to the company’s small print;
You can ONLY terminate your payment plan at the END of your minimum agreed contract period, or at any time afterwards… at least 3 weeks prior to the end of your contract.
If you do not cancel the agreement following the end of the contract period, it simply continues until you do something about it.
Auto billing contracts are notoriously hard to cancel so you may find that Slimbetti Active Xtreme costs you much more than you bargained for.
Slimbetti do not provide any information about how to take this diet pill.
Slimbetti Active Xtreme Concerns:
- Lack of ingredients information. Who knows what’s contained in these capsules!
- Difficult to buy without being suckered into a long running contract
- Will not work in the way as described. Slimbetti have already been the subject of nine complaints from the ASA
What Does Slimbetti Active Xtreme Claim To Do?
Slimbetti makes a lot of claims in their advertising.
Apparently this supplement;
Melts away fat
And is safe for people with,
High BP, Diabetes, Thyroid and Depression
It may be safe. It might not be safe. We suggest that you see your doctor if you suffer from any of these conditions before using any OTC diet pill.
According to the Slimbetti so called clinical proof,
A study using a green tea extract on lab rats increased the amount of time the animals could swim before becoming exhausted by as much as 24%
We don’t find this a convincing reason to take this supplement for weight loss and thought it sounded cruel and unnecessary.
Interestingly despite research, we were unable to find reports of this clinical trial.
Slimbetti Active Xtreme is said to be suitable for;
Serious weightloss and is for people who are serious about weight loss.
They went on to state,
If you experience rapid weight loss reduces daily usage!
As if that is going to happen!
So What Is Slimbetti Active Xtreme and What Are The Ingredients For Slimbetti Active Xtreme?
Slimbetti Active Xtreme is a South African diet pill that the makers describe as an ultimate fat burner and other people have described as a scam.
There is no ingredients information so we cannot tell you what is contained in the pills and how much. There are two advertised ingredients but there may be others.
- Green Tea: Is a good source of antioxidants – molecules that have a protective effect on cells and help prevent disease. Green tea contains Catechins polyphenols and ECGC as well as caffeine and some research has suggested that this does play a role in helping to promote fat oxidation or fat burning. Green tea is known to have many health benefits and drinking more of this beverage is good for health. It requires further investigation regarding its efficacy as a supplement for weight loss. Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10584049
- African Mango Seeds: Irvingia Gabonensis to give it its botanical name is commonly sold in supplements rather than natural form. The seeds are high in fibre that may be beneficial to health and weight loss.
A clinical trial carried out by the University of Yaoundé on 102 people over 10 weeks showed improvements to waist ,circumference, body fat, weight and cholesterol levels after taking 150mg of African mango extract twice a day. However, before we all get too carried away, this clinical testing was only carried out on 102 people. Although this may prove that in this University of Yaoundé test, the participants all received positive benefits, further testing is necessary to ascertain if this effect will be as good on a larger scale or under different test conditions.
The University itself has suggested that although results are promising further research is necessary.
102 people is a tiny number when compared to the amount of people buying African mango supplements. The ingredient requires further testing to prove the claims. In addition, long-term safety and potential side effects have not been fully evaluated. Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2651880/#__ffn_sectitle
So What Does All This Mean?
Slimbetti Active Xtreme contains two ingredients that are popular in the diet industry and which seem safe.
However, we have no way of knowing the amount quantities and more worryingly, we suspect there are other ingredients, which are not being disclosed.
It is impossible to find a label or ingredients list. Nobody really appears to know what is contained in this supplement.
Does Slimbetti Active Xtreme Have Any Side Effects?
We were unable to find any genuine independent customer reviews for Slimbetti Active Xtreme so we cannot bring you any real life experiences around side effects.
There were some mild side effects associated with African Mango seeds in the only clinical trial and patients reported dry mouth, headaches and mild flu like symptoms.
Green tea contains caffeine so can cause caffeine side effects such as;
- Increased Blood pressure
- Increased heart rate
- Stomach upsets
Caution: Avoid if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Do not take if you suffer from glaucoma (green tea raises the pressure behind the eye) or are suffering from anaemia. Check with your doctor first if you have a medical condition or are taking medication.
Be warned. There may be other ingredients contained in this supplement so Slimbetti Active Xtreme may provoke other reactions as well as the ones we have listed.
Any Slimbetti Active Xtreme Reviews From Customers?
We could not find any independent customer reviews. Slimbetti does have a Facebook presence with 9,000 followers but we are not sure about how impartial this is.
Some so called followers have posted remarks such as;
Three days on Slimbetti and I already lose 2kgs
Using Slimbetti feels like a relationship; hard work and commitment with stunning results
We also found a product review on a website that spoke very favourably about the weight loss benefits of Slimbetti but it turned out to have been written by company owner Chris Grindlay.
I see some people ask questions such as “does Slimbetti work”, Slimbetti must work because of such an overwhelming amount of evidence that can be found on the Internet proving that it does.
That is not a convincing argument for Slimbetti. There are all sorts of things posted on the internet and not everything you read is true.
His article lost even more credibility because a link to prove that customers are actually buying and reviewing this product led to a site which does not exist.
So Does Slimbetti Active Xtreme Work?
Slimbetti Active Xtreme will not make you lose vast quantities of weight within a short time no matter what they say on Facebook.
If the supplement only contains African mango seeds and green tea it is unlikely to do you too much harm and may have a modest effect on weight loss.
However, there are too many Ifs and Buts around this supplement and it requires a very strong leap of faith and boundless optimism to actually believe in it.
Where Can I Buy Slimbetti Active Xtreme?
You can buy Slimbetti Active Xtreme direct from the product website but be warned this is not straightforward. Slimbetti offer to;
send u this amazing product today, use the product and u can play later? Ask me how
The company want to talk to you on the phone and they offer you a “free personal trainer” to talk about weight loss by calling you every two weeks.
However, they will not reveal their prices until you have spoken to them. The idea is that you sign up for a long running contract until you reach your target weight. You have to give the company your bank details and set up a direct debit mandate.
The Slimbetti terms and conditions state;
You can ONLY terminate your payment plan at the END of your minimum agreed contract period, or at any time afterwards, by simply sms’ing 076 888 6459 at least 3 weeks prior to the end of your contract.
It appears that Slimbetti expect you to be taking this supplement for a very long time.
You can also buy Slimbetti Active Xtreme from local pharmacies and health shops across South Africa.
Slimbetti provide a list of stockists and phone numbers so you can contact these businesses individually. You may be able to buy over the counter without signing up to a long running contract.
We find it remarkable that real pharmacies would actually stock such a duff looking supplement. We were unable to find pricing information.
Slimbetti Active Xtreme is not available to customers outside South Africa.
What About A Guarantee
There is a logo advertising a 100% guarantee but there are no details about how to claim this and we feel it may be there simply for decoration.
To say that we are unimpressed with Slimbetti Active Xtreme is an understatement. Even though it does look slightly better than their other products there is still the usual lack of product information, ingredients list and pricing details that we have come to expect from Slimbetti.
You really don’t know what is in Slimbetti Active Xtreme and although we like the green tea and the African mango seed combination who knows what else it contains? The company are withholding this vital information, as it seems they are about everything else.
Don’t get suckered into it. You may find it hard to cancel the agreement once they have your bank details and do you really want to have a phone conversation every two weeks about your weight loss?
Lastly, Slimbetti have run into a lot of bother in South Africa over their wildly inflated advertising claims and have ignored complaints regardless.
We cannot accept this supplement and for all these reasons, we have no other choice but to reject it.
