Slimsticks is manufactured by Inovate Health Ltd, which is a UK company registered in Bath. They are a new company set up in 2010 and specialise in healthy snacks and novel supplements. There is also mention of Spica Ltd a Guernsey registered company but we are not sure of the relationship between the two. At the time of writing neither company have an official website.
The official Slimsticks website is professionally designed and has lots of recipes and other nutritional advice. According to the website there are three experts on hand for advice, they have a background in personal training and nutrition. You simply email your question on the “Ask the Experts” page and as long as you adhere to the 6 Important Rules they should respond within 24 hours.
At first glance you could mistakenly think that Slimsticks are like any other slimming drink or diet shake on the market. Slimsticks are not a meal replacement though; instead the drinks are taken with your breakfast and/or lunchtime meal.
Unlike many other diet supplements the “instant” drink mix won’t get to work straight away. They can take three or four hours to be effective as they need to be digested and absorbed first. When they do, the manufacturers claim they can be effective for up to eight hours.
Each box of Slimsticks includes 30 sachets each weighing around 6g. You are recommended to first try two sachets per day, one with breakfast and one at lunchtime for the first month and then just one at breakfast during the second month. However the manufacturer suggests this will vary for individuals depending on a number of factors such as individual metabolism and possibly diet.
We tried one of the sachets with water, which tasted milky with a slightly nutty flavour. We didn’t find it as unpleasant as other consumers have reported. That said the manufacturer does suggest that you can add to other drinks such as tea or coffee, or even to yoghurt or cereals. So you can always experiment!
After ordering Slimsticks online, delivery should take between 3 and 5 days but the manufacturer does highlight that in some “extreme” cases can be up to 28 days. We are not quite sure what “extreme” cases they are referring too, but assume this relates to stock or possibly postal issues.
- Weight loss is modest at best and will require significant time for results
- Requires sticking to healthy diet and exercise programme to see any results
- Promotes free Slimsticks in exchange for success stories
What Does Slimsticks Claim To Do?
The makers of Slimsticks claim that their instant drink mix can reduce your calorie intake by up to 30% by naturally curbing your appetite.
Taken directly from the website…
Slimsticks can help you resist temptation and avoid yo yo dieting by reducing food cravings and hunger pangs in between meals by keeping you feeling fuller for longer. It also help you eat less during main meals.
After taking the Slimsticks drink mix the..
appetite suppressing affect starts to work two to three hours after taking and lasts up to eight hours.
So What Is Slimsticks and What Are The Ingredients For Slimsticks?
Slimsticks are very much regarded as appetite suppressants that aim to reduce food cravings and help portion sizes. It will in no way boost metabolism or help to increase energy levels or alertness. It claims to do this with the help of the main active ingredient that’s rather interestingly called “Fabuless”.
So what is Fabuless?
- Fabuless: Made from a combination of fine palm oil coated with oat oil to form fine oil droplets. Studies have shown that vegetable oils may cause changes to satiety by naturally trigging appetite control mechanism by delaying hunger signals. This has been suggested to help you feel less prone to snacking and that you may eat reduced portions as you feel fuller.
If you interested to find out more here is list of some independent studies referenced (in no particular order):
No other active ingredients are specified apart from glucose syrup and flow agent (E551). There is no need to worry about the number of calories either as each sachet is only 34Kcal per serving.
So What Does All This Mean?
Slimsticks is an easy to prepare drink that can be combined with your daily beverage of choice two or three hours before you tend to feel hungry.
Two to three hours after consuming your Slimsticks drink the undigested Fabuless oil mixture has made its way to the lower intestine where it triggers hormones known to signal the brain that the stomach is full. The exact mechanism of how this works is unknown but there is supporting evidence this works. Recent clinical studies have questioned the effectiveness and we discuss this in more detail later in our review (see “So does Slimsticks work?”)
Using Slimsticks is supposed to encourage a change in behaviour over time that means you habitually reduce food portions. This, the manufacturer suggests is how Slimsticks can help to keep the weight off after losing it.
Does Slimsticks Have Any Side Effects?
There should not be any negative side effects when taking the Slimsticks drink mix.
There have been a few reports of mild bloating from a few consumers. Some consumers have reported that the taste is bad but you can try mixing with other beverages to improve the taste.
Caution: You are advised to seek professional advice before using Slimsticks if you are pregnant, breast feeding, suffering from food allergies or if you taking any medication or have a medical condition.
Any Slimsticks Reviews From Customers?
The official website displays 8 testimonials from satisfied customers who have lost between 8lbs and 2 stones with Slimsticks. Not all of testimonials shown have a before and after and we are unable to confirm how genuine they are.
We found mixed feedback from consumers reporting on more independent sites, such as Amazon.
Positive consumer feedback such as…
i take one as soon as i get up on a morning around 7am as they take around 2-4 hours to kick in and my next one about 2pm/3pm. I am full all the time and so far i have been taking these a week and i have lost 4lbs as i just dont want to eat, also i find with these you dont fancy anything naughty its like they turn you off fatty foods.

One negative report from an unsatisfied consumer said…
Slimsticks don’t work. They havent reduced my snacking or my meal portion size. Apart from feeling bloated I havent noticed any effects what so ever! What a waste of money.

Other reviews shown on the Lloyds Pharmacy have equally mixed reviews, see here: http://reviews.lloydspharmacy.com/8014-en_gb/7214711/slimsticks-instant-drink-mix-reviews/reviews.htm
Slimsticks in the Media
Since being released Slimsticks has featured a lot in the press from daily papers, magazines to celebrity gossip websites. These range from The Telegraph, Sunday Express, The Times, The Sun to New! Magazine, Mr Paparazzi, Female First and Love It! Magazine.
The media exposure has been helped by “the face of” of Slimsticks being none other than Imogen Thomas, a glamorous TV personality and model.
Imogen has been quoted saying, “My problem is that I absolutely love food so I find it difficult to control my weight”. Going onto praise Slimsticks by saying “I hadn’t heard about it but after looking on their website, I thought I’d give it a go, especially as Slimsticks is natural and had no side effects.”
So Does Slimsticks Work?
Looking at the number of independent clinical studies referenced by Slimsticks you would immediately assume that Slimsticks did indeed work and very well.
The evidence from the clinical trials show that the ingredients in Slimsticks can help to reduce calorie consumption from meals taken after supplementation by up to 29%. With the appetite suppressant effects lasting more than eight hours.
All very persuasive stuff, making a great change as many of the diet products we review do not provide any supporting evidence!
Let’s take a quick overview of the science behind Slimsticks.
The studies have been published in the “International Journal of Obesity”, “European Journal of Clinical Nutrition” and “Physiology and Behaviour”, all established and reputable journals of a good standing. We should highlight though that none of these referenced clinical studies use Slimsticks or the main active ingredient Fabuless itself.
A recent study by HJ Smit et al in 2010 reported in the European of Clinical Nutrition has questioned the effectiveness of Fabuless in suppressing appetite or food intake, showing only very modest results. See the study full here:
Taking a further in-depth look at some of the later studies by Burns et al in 2000, 2001 and 2002, it seems results have also been somewhat mixed and have not managed to fully replicated the initial findings. HJ Smit et al suggest this may be due to how Fabuless is subjected to normal food processing. For example, the effectiveness of Fabuless is reduced when subjected to normal food processing. This means that the processing and storage conditions of Fabuless may affect just how well it works!
There is currently a lack of knowledge to determine exactly how (and what quantity) Fabuless passes through the stomach into the lower intestine without it being affected.
In summary, most studies we found agreed that there could be at least a modest effect on food intake with Fabuless or its equivalent, although the actual weight loss results are mixed. This coupled with the anecdotal evidence available suggests this supplement could work although may take some time for big results.
How About a Slimsticks Guarantee?
We couldn’t find any information about a money-back guarantee so there appears to be no money-back guarantee on offer.
There is a returns policy that requires that you send the product back in its original condition within 28 days of receiving it. Inovate Health Ltd aims to process refunds within 14 days of receiving the returned product.
Where Can I Buy Slimsticks?
You can buy online via the official website or on the UK high street from Lloyds Pharmacy, although we were unable to find it on the Lloyds Pharmacy website.
Both currently offer a £10 discount on recommended retail price of £29.95, which means you can buy 1 month’s supply of 30 Slimsticks for a very reasonable price of £19.95. This means taking Slimsticks will cost you less than £1 per day. If purchased online postage and packing is currently free.
Slimsticks is a reasonably priced product that won’t break the bank, costing less than £1 per day. This is worth considering as this drink supplement is not a quick weight loss solution and could take some time to see any significant results!
In our opinion Slimsticks instant drinks are better than meal replacement or diet shakes as they don’t encourage a low calorie diet that may be deficient in micronutrients. As with many dieting drinks the taste could put off some consumers so it’s recommended you take it in your beverage of choice instead of water or milk.
Slimsticks may help control your appetite and over time (probably a long time!) help you achieve your weight loss goals. Like all diet shake plans it will require that you adhere to the one to two Slimstick drinks per day and follow a healthy diet and exercise plan. The official website is a great resource for recipes and is packed full of nutrition advice, which we really liked and found useful.
Sticking with Slimsticks may yield results but could well mean you need to take the drinks for some time. The modest weight loss results, lack of money-back guarantee and mixed clinical results means we are going to reject the Slimsticks diet.
