Fat binders are often considered to be a safer alternative to fat burners and while that may be true, are they effective at helping you to lose weight?
A fat burner will attack your fat wherever it is in your body and can provide quick results, although they stimulate the metabolism which can have cardiovascular consequences.
By contrast, fat binders work in a much more gradual way, providing less of a body shock.
Fat binders go after undigested fat in the stomach and attach onto it so it can't be absorbed into the body.
Over a period of time, this will block as much as 30 per cent of fat from your diet, which may sound impressive, but when it comes down to it, it may equate to as little as a couple of pounds a month weight loss.
These kinds of supplements are also promoted for their natural ingredients – after all, it's a kind of fibre. However, that doesn't mean that they're totally safe – adverse effects like indigestion, diarrhoea and flatulence have all been reported, which can prove to be unpleasant side effects.
There are some positives to fat binders, like the possible improvement of your gut's health, but there's very little evidence to suggest that they perform their primary function of helping you to lose weight, so by-and-large we'd suggest that you look at fat loss alternatives.
