The Diet Pills Watchdog Ingredient Videos: Chitosan
Chitosan is like one of those celebrities who's just famous for being famous – with the supplement, it's much sought after for fat burners but at present no-one really knows why.
First, we'll deal with the little bit that we do know about it – in nature, it's present in the shells of crabs and lobsters, and we know it's not toxic to humans, which has to be a good thing. However, as for the known facts about chitosan, that's about it.
There have been some studies which suggest it may help weight loss by inhibiting the absorption of fat, as well as working with vitamin C to further reduce how much fat actually gets digested.
That said, other researchers have indicated that chitosan isn't an effective weight loss agent, while the safe dosage is currently unknown, with abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, constipation, flatulence, nausea and heart burn being some of the known side effects.
With all that in mind, we'd strongly recommend that you hold onto your money when you see diet supplements containing chitosan – at least until more research has been done.
